NEM News 2012 Editorial Calendar
NEM News is an 8-page, bi-monthly newsletter with issues posting six times per year. The official publication dates for each issue are:
1. January/February
2. March/April
3. May/June
4. July/August
5. September/October
6. November/December.
The line-up for each newsletter issue includes 2-3 features, listings of upcoming events, meet results and announcements, news items, volunteer opportunities, and any other news items or information that New England Masters swimmers may be interested in learning about.
Deadlines for content submissions (photos and text) will be the third or fourth week (generally between the 21st and 28th of the month prior to the first month of the issue date, i.e.:
1. December 28th for the January/February issue;
2. February 26th for the March/April issue;
3. April 23rd for the May/June issue;
4. June 25th for the July/August issue;
5. August 27th for the September/October issue; and
6. October 25th for the November/December issue)
Completed issues will be sent to press by the first of the month of issue and released to members directly from the printer thereafter.

Each newsletter issue will include:
• A 2- to 3-month calendar for meets and races
• 1-2 Editorials

• Any combination of other items as the needs and submissions of the club membership dictates
January/February
Submission deadline December 28, 2009
Theme— New Year’s Resolutions— what do you resolve to be in 2010? Setting training goals for the New Year, selecting competition venues and training schedules, making a commitment to train, destination swims, etc.
March/April
Submission deadline February 26, 2010
Theme— Fitness Swimming— (coverage of postal events and other winter indoor swimming activities etc.)
May/June
Submission deadline April 23, 2010
Theme— Open Water Preview Issue— listing of open water swims around the country. Meet results from SCY Championships
July/August
Submission deadline June 25, 2010
Theme—Summer is Here— Summer swimming, profile of swimmers undertaking major open water swims
September/October
Submission deadline August 27, 2010
Theme— Fall in New England— Upcoming fall and winter events, health and fitness information, gearing up for winter training and championships, profiles of major open water swimmers/swims that took place over the summer
November/December
Submission deadline October 25
Theme— Winter Training— Meet results, fitting training in around the holidays
Submissions Guidelines:
For feature-length articles and editorials, please submit a Word document of 500-800 words. Please include the author’s workout group that will be printed alongside the byline. For more information about style and usage, please request a Style Guide from the editor.
Send all submissions to nemnews@gmail.com and please indicate when you’d like the article to run. We can’t guarantee that items will be printed when you request, but we will try to get articles in the issue that is most relevant to the content. For a theme and line-up schedule, please see the foregoing editorial calendar.
For calendar items and event announcements, please send all relevant information and complete contact information for the meet or event to the editor at nemnews@gmail.com. Please list a web address if any exists so readers can go there for more information. We will no longer be printing meet entry forms, so please indicate how entrants should obtain forms or whom to contact for more information.
For photos, please send an electronic file of 500K or less (300 dpi or higher) to the editor at nemnews@gmail.com. Please include the name and contact information of the photographer for correct attribution in the newsletter. Please also include names of all persons in the photo from right to left for attribution in the issue.
