Fellow NEM swimmers,
The NE LMSC SCM Championship at BU was another rousing success with nearly 500 swimmers, a plethora of records, including 6 World marks. Thanks to all who participated! Go to http://scmchamps.blogspot.com/ for detailed results.
January is the One Hour Swim Postal Championship month. NEM is the defending champion with nearly a third of our membership participating in 2012. We’ll need this same level of participation to keep our trophy. Go to: https://www.clubassistant.com/club/meet_information.cfm?c=1308&smid=4109 for details.
You need to be registered and a NEM SC member for your results to count. So, don’t forget your USMS registration for 2013. Go to: http://www.usms.org/reg/ and follow the instructions.
Attached is the December issue of NEM News. This was Elaine Howley’s final effort. Elaine has been the Editor for nearly 7 years and has spent many, many hours as a volunteer, and doing a great job. We all owe her our thanks and gratitude. Thank you Elaine!
Dave Bright is taking over, with help from Jacki Hirsty. Dave can be reached at nemnewsletter@gmail.com and is looking for articles/pictures for the next issue by January 15th. Thank you Dave and Jacki for volunteering.
The 2013 NE LMSC SCY Championship will, again, take place at Harvard on March 16 (distance) and 22-24, so mark your calendars.
We have a mini-meet scheduled on Jan. 20th, the 3rd Annual WCWC Master Icebreaker Meet in Salem, NH. A great facility and a great meet to get you in the mood for the SCY season.
We are desperately looking for additional mini-meets. Please contact Mindy Williams(mindy.williams@simmons.edu) for help and encouragement running a meet.
Additional info on all the above is always available on our web site – swimnem.org.
A joyous holiday season and a Happy 2013 to all!

Help Us Retain Our Title!
Less Than a Week Left To Help Us Defend Our Title! – Please Complete Your One Hour Swim Today! We were in 2nd place at the half-way mark, but there is still time to catch up. Our arch rival was in first place and they are this year’s sponsor of the event so you can bet they are focused on it. We can win, but not without your help. PLEASE complete your One Hour Swim today. If you have done it, please make sure to register your swim with USMS. It does not count unless you officially enter it. All one needs to do is:
-Register with USMS as an NEM swimmer!
-Pick any time in January to swim!
-Swim in any 25 yard or 25 meter pool!
-Have someone record your 50 splits over an hour (you can even stop and rest along the way – it does NOT need to be a continuous swim!)!
-Submit your yardage online at: https://www.clubassistant.com/club/meet_information.cfm?c=1308&smid=4109
Anyone can do it !
-You don’t need to swim the full hour.
-You don’t need to swim it straight – some people just swam 50’s on a comfortable interval.
-You don’t even have to swim – Tracy Grilli skulled 1500 yards over an hour last year since she was recovering from shoulder surgery (you just can’t use a kickboard or other equipment).
We need EVERYONE to contribute if we are going to win again this year. As we’ve said in the past, participation is what matters most. We don’t care what distance you complete. What matters is that you contribute to the cause. This is the one event where NEM clubs compete as one team and not against each other. The NEM website will list times and locations where NEM teams are hosting one hour swims, but you don’t need to do it as part of a group. You can do it on your own any time in January. WE NEED YOU – Go Postal and Help Us Defend Our Championship!
