Open Water Clinic with Alex Meyer

My name is Alex Meyer, I train at Harvard, and I swam the open water 10k at the 2012 Olympic Games for the USA. I just wanted to let you know that I’m running a clinic covering open water skills, tactics, strategy, safety etc. on May 3rd from 11am-2pm in Beverly, MA at the Sterling YMCA. A promotional poster is attached and the online registration is now open here: http://www.imathlete.com/events/EventOverview.aspx?fEID=20143&z=1396899156613

Now that the summer triathlon and open water swimming season is almost here, I’m excited to impart some of my knowledge and experience onto swimmers eager to learn more about open water swimming. I have room for 30 swimmers.

USMS COACH CERTIFICATION CLASSES

USMS COACH CERTIFICATION CLASSES

Learn more about coaching masters and become certified. On May 4 and 5, 2013, the USMS/ASCA Masters Coach Certification Classes will be conducted at MIT in Cambridge, MA. There are a few seats available and registration is online at: http://www.usms.org/content/coachcertsched

The USMS Coaches Committee and Club and Coach Services have developed three levels of Masters coach certification. The new courses are taught in classroom settings throughout the country by USMS certified instructors, in partnership with the American Swimming Coaches Association. At the conclusion of the courses, ASCA processes the course materials and applications and issues certification.

If you’re already an ASCA certified coach and have completed the Masters track, you’ll continue to have your certification recognized. However, you’re invited to take these new and improved courses, for which you’ll earn credits toward ASCA’s continuing education requirements.

To become a USMS certified Masters coach, you must:

Be a member of USMS
Attend the Masters coach certification course
Submit the required documents to ASCA:
USMS/ASCA Certified Coach application (provided at certification course)
Completed test(s) from the certification course
Online membership application to ASCA (cost $70) if not a current ASCA member
Once you receive your Masters coach certification from ASCA, USMS will recognize your certification status. If you decide not to renew your annual membership with ASCA, you will lose the benefits of ASCA membership. However, USMS will continue to recognize your status as a certified Masters coach – regardless of your ASCA membership status – as long as you maintain your USMS membership.

Video Technique Session by Stu Cromarty

A training session is ON for April 14th at Assumption College at 10am. 100 minute workout. USMS membership is not required.

I will have 4 or 5 different ability workouts but we will spend at least 30 minutes of technique work and basically give you advice on how to train and things you should do each day before and after practice.

We have a beautiful 6 lane pool (4 per lane max) – 24 total at $6 each — money goes in our team fundraiser and if you write a check you can use it as a tax donation.

For those of you that don’t know me, I am the head coach at Assumption College and live in Foster, RI. See my bio online at: http://www.assumptiongreyhounds.com/sports/swim/coaches/index

2nd item — Right after this practice I will videotape individual swimmers for 5 min each of tape with a personalized critique of your strokes imbedded on video and what you need to work on.

Reason to do this after workout is because you will be tired and that is best time to show you what your strokes really look like!! 🙂 CD’s will be burnt and mailed directly to you! Cost $15 per person. Max of 12 individuals – again money goes in our fundraiser.

Contact me at scromart@assumption.edu if interested.

Thanks,
Stuart
