The new Martha’s Vineyard YMCA pool is barely three weeks old and it is already the training home for Rainy Goodale and Sue Jensen, two of New England’s eight person “Worlds” team that will be heading to the 2010 FINA World Masters Championships in Gothenberg, Sweden from July 31 through August 6. Rainy, a Vineyard Haven resident and the holder of multiple New England breast stroke records, will be competing in the 50M, 100M and 200M breast stroke events as well as the 50M freestyle, butterfly and backstroke races. Sue Jensen normally swims for the Cambridge Masters Swim Club but is on the Island for the summer and training with Rainy. Sue will compete in the 200M and 400M individual medley events as well as the 100M, 200M, 400M and 800M freestyle races. Both women appreciate the opportunity to train in the new and relatively fast “Y” pool and members of the Vineyard’s masters swim team are enjoying the opportunity to be challenged by swimming in the lanes next to these talented, committed and fast women.
