Minuteman Masters Swim Club member Jarrod Shoemaker has earned a spot on the 2008 United States Olympic Team by racing across the finish line as the 1st American finisher in the 2007 Beijing BG Triathlon World Cup. Placing 11th overall. Shoemaker finished in 1:49:44 (swim 17:55, bike 59:7, run 31:37). The impressive field of athletes included American Olympians Hunter Kemper (2000, 2004) and Andy Potts (2004). Shoemaker had the race of a lifetime beginning with an amazing swim keeping pace with the world’s elite. On the bike Shoemaker jockeyed amongst fellow Americans Doug Friman, Matt Reid, and Brian Fleischmann playing it safe in a dangerous pack of over fifty athletes. In thrilling fashion Shoemaker made his move on the third of four laps on the run picking off Kemper and then Potts. Shoemaker is the first New England Masters Swim Club athlete to earn a spot on the US Olympic Team. Shoemaker is the first of Minuteman Olympic trial qualifiers to advance to the games. Prior Minuteman Olympic trial qualifiers have included Abigail Clarke (swimming; 2000) and Karen Smyers (triathlon; 2000,2004). Congratulations Jarrod – New England will be watching!!!
