NEMSC Swimming Community,

Congratulations to NEMSC’s 4 LCM National Champions – Karen Bierwert, Jim Edwards, Tracy Grilli and Mike Ross. In the sweltering heat of Texas our small contingent outdid itself. Karen garnered 2 first and 3 second place finishes, while Jim achieved perfection, winning 6 (!) gold medals. Tracy got 3 gold, along with medals of all the other colors, and Mike, at a ripe age of 39, managed to best all his younger competitors in 4 events.

**Editor’s Note — Congratulations to all of the NEM’ers who went down to the Woodlands for this meet. There were many other noteworthy performances including Ellen Stanley grabbing two silvers in the 200 and 400 IM (and two fourths in the 100 and 200 Free), Cheryl Kupan who swam 6 events (2 3rd’s, 2 4th’s, 1 5th and 1 6th) and the secret two-man relay team of Nate McBride and Mike Gallagher, who despite being DQ’ed for only having two men, did not finish their heat last.

I see many of you doing Open Water swims. Tim Morse (lemorse@comcast.net) is looking for articles, so please think about writing up your experience and sending it to him for inclusion in NEM News.

NEM LMSC has reached an all-time record number of members with 1902 as of the end of July – and we still have the SCM season ahead of us. Thanks to you all for spreading the word, in particular to Al Prescott who gave his time promoting NEM at triathlons.

Bob Boder and Bill Ewan ran several highly successful clinics. Bob will not be available for a while, but Bill would be interested in continuing – if he could get some help working the cameras. If you’re interested please contact him (Bill Ewan - w1vh@cox.net).

Our Fall SCM calendar is shaping up with 4 meets scheduled so far:
Oct. 21 – Concord, MA
Nov. 3 – Wheaton College
Nov. 10 – Portsmouth, NH
Dec. 14-16 – SCM Championships at BU

We would love to have another meet during the month gap before BU, so those who have access to an SCM pool, please consider running a meet.

Enjoy the last weeks of summer!
