Minuteman Masters Tri-Swim Clinic

By coach nate, June 29, 2007 10:57 am

Minuteman Masters hosted a very successful tri clinic on Saturday, June 16th at our home LCM pool in Bedford, MA. Nine participants enjoyed personalized attention from four Minuteman Coaches. Coaches Rich Axtell, Nate McBride, Sue Sotir, and Ellen Stanley offered expertise on freestyle technique, drafting, and sighting. The clinic was broken into the three disciplines after a brief welcome and warm-up.

Coach Rich introduced the freestyle technique portion of the clinic and prescribed drills to the participants. Coach Nate introduced drafting along with illustrations and organized participants into pairs for drafting drills. (Coach Ellen hopped in so each swimmer had a mate) Coach Sue introduced sighting and utilizing illustrations prior to sending the group of participants through a series of sighting exercises. Two coaches were positioned at each end of the pool for optimum feedback throughout the clinic.

Video was shot of Coaches Ellen and Sue practicing proper techniques taught in the clinic. Coach Nate then captured each participant on video. Videos of Coaches Ellen and Sue along with participants video were posted on the Minuteman website.  Each video is accompanied by written commentary.

The clinic managed to stay on a 90 minute timeline that allowed for material on the itinerary to be addressed in detail. The Coaches did a great job by maximizing feedback and new material introduction in the time allowed for the clinic. Feedback received from participants has given the clinic a resounding “two-thumbs up”. Due to the success of the tri-clinic, Minuteman will be hosting another clinic soon! Stay tuned for the announcement!!!

NE LCM Championships – Final Wrap Up

By coach nate, June 25, 2007 8:54 am

This was undoubtedly one of the best all around meets I’ve ever attended in all my years of swimming Masters.  Everything came together beautifully, the pool was consistently perfect (Middlebury uses Bromine instead of Chlorine = awesome air & water quality), the crowd was great and the records…the records were dropping faster than they could announce them.  Overall, 49 New England Records, 1 World Record, 2 US National Records and 6 Canadian National Records…it was incredible.  Plan ahead and put it on the calendar for next year because its going to get even better. Thanks Muffintops for a great weekend!

NEM Swimmers,

The deadline for the LCM Championship is just a few days away. Don’t miss this weekend in Vermont. A great and rare opportunity to swim long course, get some times in for top ten and enjoy a rare NEM social on Saturday night! Attached please find the entry form. For further info on the meet go to: http://middleburymuffintops.org/LCMChamps/Default.aspx

After a lengthy search, USMS has hired an Executive Director, a full-time person to oversee the day-to-day activities of this organization of some 44,000 swimmers, which includes all of us. It is a long overdue step to take our organiztion to the next level.

GBM has scheduled their traditional LCM meet at the Jenny Thompson pool in Dover, NH for July 22nd. If the weather cooperrates, it is usually a great meet, followed by a barbecue. Put it on your calendar. Info will soon be available at http://www.greatbaymasters.org/gbmmeets.php
