From the President of NEM…
USMS Annual Convention September 13-17, 2006
A half dozen NEM members attended this year’s convention that was held
in Dearborn, MI. This gathering of approximately 250 US Masters
Swimming representatives from around the country conducts a number of
activities including the approval of the USMS operating budget for
2007, review & acceptance of proposed rule changes, and selection of
the locations for the 2008 National Championship meets and 2007 Zone
Championship meets. Regarding registration there were two good bits of
news. First: on-line registration is scheduled to be available starting
in February 2007. Second: a needed USMS dues increase of $5 per member
has been delayed until 2008 as USMS will dip into reserves to cover an
anticipated operational loss in 2007. Other highlights included; Tom
Lyndon’s well received presentation of the USMS Communications Plan,
Michael Moore’s report on the highly successful FINA World Masters
Championship event, and the fact that the leadership team is quite
close to selecting a new USMS Executive Director
New NEM Treasurer
We are pleased to announce that Lisa McNamara took over effective
September 23, 2006 as the new Treasurer. Receipts and any expense
reimbursement requests should henceforth be directed to her. Her
address is 33 Winfield Street, Dedham, MA 02026. Join us in welcoming this new volunteer to the NEM leadership team.
NEM Annual Meeting
As usual we will be holding the required Annual Meeting in October.
Arrangements are being made to hold it in late October at a convenient
location. An announcement of the date and location will be made two
weeks prior to the event. Any NEM member is welcomed to attend.
New Volunteers still needed
The Club is still seeking volunteers for the leadership team. We are
currently seeking individuals for positions like the Clerk/ Secretary,
NEM News editor, and the Championship Events Coordinator. If you have
any interest please contact Homer Lane at hlane@mbl.edu.
