2008 Beijing Update

Beijing pool construction, website progress

BEIJING, CHINA–The installation of outer membrane of the National Aquatics Center in Beijing began last Thursday. The Center will host the aquatics competitions, except open water, for the 2008 Olympics. In related news, the Beijing organizers have also launched a new section to their website, featuring project information on both the National Aquatics Center and the National Stadium (aka “Birdnest”), which will house the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and track competition. Currently the Games organizers are hosting their first World Press Briefing, which began yesterday and continues through Thursday (September 25-28).
